چکیده
BackgroundHypokinetic dysarthria is a common but difficult-to-treat symptom of Parkinson’s disease (PD).ObjectivesWe evaluated the long-term effects multiple-session repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on hypokinetic in PD. Neural mechanisms were assessed by functional MRI.MethodsA randomized parallel-group sham stimulation-controlled design was used. Patients randomly assigned to ten sessions (2 weeks) real (1 Hz) or over right superior temporal gyrus. Stimulation at weeks 2, 6, and 10 after baseline assessment. Articulation, prosody, speech intelligibility quantified therapist using validated tool (Phonetics score Dysarthric Profile). Activations network regions intrinsic connectivity 3T MRI. Linear mixed models post-hoc tests utilized for data analyses.ResultsAltogether 33 PD patients completed study (20 group 13 group). revealed significant time (F(3, 88.1) = 22.7, p < 0.001) time-by-group interactions: F(3, 88.0) 2.8, 0.040) Phonetics score. Real as compared led activation increases orofacial sensorimotor cortex caudate nucleus increased these with stimulated area.ConclusionsThis first show treatment non-invasive brain changes are discussed.

Effects of Citrulline on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Randomized-controlled Clinical Trial
Background and Objectives: Citrulline (cit.) is a non-essential amino acid derived from watermelon, which affects improving glucose tolerance and lipid and energy metabolisms. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of citrulline supplementation on non-alcoholic fatty liver. Materials & Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 50 patients with NAFLD were randomly assigned to recei...
متن کاملPhysical therapy and deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s Disease: protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial
Background Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) reduces tremor, muscle stiffness, and bradykinesia in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD). Walking speed, known to be reduced in PD, typically improves after surgery; however, other important aspects of gait may not improve. Furthermore, balance may worsen and falls may increase after STN-DBS. Thus, interventions to improve balanc...
متن کاملA randomized trial of deep-brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease.
BACKGROUND Neurostimulation of the subthalamic nucleus reduces levodopa-related motor complications in advanced Parkinson's disease. We compared this treatment plus medication with medical management. METHODS In this randomized-pairs trial, we enrolled 156 patients with advanced Parkinson's disease and severe motor symptoms. The primary end points were the changes from baseline to six months ...
متن کاملNon Invasive Brain Stimulation to Improve Metaphoric Speech Processing in
Background: An underestimated feature of schizophrenia is the impaired processing of the metaphoric speech, mainly due to a reduced activation of the right hemisphere. Objective/hypothesis: We investigated whether anodal tDCS over the right posterior superior temporal sulcus may improve the processing of metaphoric speech of schizophrenia patients (SCZ). Methods: Ten SCZ subjects were randomly ...
متن کاملOutcome of Phlebotomy on Improvement of Liver Enzymes and Steatosis in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Randomized, Controlled Trial
Background and Objective: Iron overload in the liver can potentially induce non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). In this study, we sought to evaluate the phlebotomy in NAFLD, and compare it with modifiedlife style. Materials and Methods: This randomized, single-blind, clinical trial was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of phlebotomy on liver enzymes and steatosis in NAFLD patients. F...
